FAQs

Q?Is there parking nearby?
A.

There is a parking garage nearby the office on 39th Street between Park and Madison, on the north side of the road.

Q?What is a hearing screening?
A.

A hearing screening is a quick objective test that ascertains the possibility of hearing loss and determines the need for further testing. It is a time efficient and cost effective way to ascertain whether a complete evaluation is necessary. A “Pass” on a hearing screening means that there is likely no or very little hearing loss. A “Fail” on a hearing screening means that a hearing loss is suspected and a complete audiological evaluation is necessary. Further, follow-up care from other professionals may be warranted. Hearing screenings are performed for pediatrics through older adult ears when necessary and often when there is increased risk for hearing loss.

Q?What is an audiological evaluation?
A.

An audiological evaluation is a complete assessment of the auditory system.  It includes a battery of diagnostic procedures that, when interpreted together, help determine the type, magnitude and configuration of hearing loss. The results of the evaluation help to develop a treatment plan that is completely individualized and can adequately address a person’s specific needs in efforts to improve communication skills.

Q?Do I need a hearing aid?
A.

It depends. The results of your audiological evaluation will measure your hearing loss and show your audiologist if you are a candidate for hearing aids.

Q?How much does a hearing aid cost?
A.

The type of hearing aid recommended to you will depend on your type of hearing loss so the cost will vary.  Some insurances provide a hearing aid benefit that may cover for full or part of the cost of the hearing aids. Additionally, financing options are available. For eligible children and young adults ages 21 and under, Medicaid will pay for the diagnosis and treatment of hearing loss, including hearing aids, under the Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic, and Treatment (EPSDT) service. Also, children may be covered by their state’s early intervention program or State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP).

Medicare does not cover hearing aids for adults; however, diagnostic evaluations are covered if they are ordered by a physician for the purpose of assisting the physician in developing a treatment plan. Since Medicare has declared the BAHA a prosthetic device and not a hearing aid, Medicare will cover the BAHA if other coverage policies are met.

Q?How long will the appointment be?
A.

Appointment times vary based on the appointment type and the procedures being completed when you are in the office. Ask us when scheduling your appointment for a time estimate. Be sure to let us know if accommodations are needed.
